Lift Clearance
Two departments, one lift, zero shortcuts.
If your restaurant spans more than one floor and relies on a lift to move guests or staff between them, that lift needs its own clearance before it can go into service.
What this licence covers
Lift clearance in most Indian states involves two separate authorities: the Electrical Inspectorate, which certifies the installation itself, and the Labour Commissioner's office, which oversees lift safety under the relevant state Lift Act. Both need to sign off before the lift can be used commercially.
The certification isn't a one-time event either — lifts are subject to periodic re-inspection, and a lapsed certificate is a liability that surfaces exactly when you'd least want it to, such as during a routine municipal check.
For a multi-storey restaurant, this is a small piece of paperwork with an outsized consequence if it's missed — an idle lift, an inspection failure, or worse.
Who needs it
Multi-storey restaurants and establishments that operate a passenger or service lift on their premises.
Documents typically required
- Lift installation certificate from the manufacturer or installer
- Building completion or occupancy certificate
- Electrical inspector's test report
- Annual maintenance contract details for the lift
- Previous clearance certificate, if renewing
