FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) License

The FSSAI license, also known as the Food License is one of the most important licenses required to open a restaurant and is obtained from the FSSAI (Food Safety and Standard Authority of India). This license is not merely a license, on the contrary, it also serves as an approval by the authority and ensures the customers that the food of that particular restaurant affirms to the food safety standards of India. This license is essentially a unique 14 digit registration number that is given to manufactures, traders and restaurants which should mandatorily be printed on food packages. This confirms your consumers that they are dining at the right place which adhered to all the safety standards

Documents Required for the FSSAI License-

Here we have mentioned below the list of documents that are needed to apply for the FSSAI License.

  • Blueprint/ layout plan of the processing unit showing the dimensions in metres/ square meters and operation – wise area allocation
  • List of directors/ partners / proprietor / executive members of the society / trust with the full address and contact details
  • Name and list of equipment and machinery along with the number, installed capacity and horse power used (mandatory for manufacturing and processing unit only.
  • Photo ID and address proof issued by government authority of proprietor / partner / director / authorised signatory.
  • List of food category desired to be manufactured (in case of manufacturers)
  • Authority letter with the name and address of responsible person nominated by the manufactures along with the alternative responsible person indicating the powers vested with the viz assisting the officers in inspections, collection of samples, packing and dispatch. (for manufacturers / processors)
  • Analysis report (chemical and bacteriological) of water to be used as ingredient in food from a recognised / public health laboratory to confirm the portability (mandatory only for manufacturing and processing units only )
  • Proof of possession of premises. (Sale deed/ rent agreement/ electricity bill etc.)
  • Partnership deed/ affidavit of proprietorship/ memorandum and articles of association towards the constitution of the firm. (optional – for MOA- Three pages needs to be uploaded (first page – certification of incorporation, second page- Authorization of food of business activity and third page – list of directors with the addresses)
  • Copy of certificate obtained under coop act 1861/multi state coop act -2002in case of cooperatives
  • NOC AND COPY of license from manufacturer (mandatory for relabellers and repackers only)
  • Food safety management system plan or certificate (if any )
  • Source of milk or procurement plan for making including location of milk collection centres etc. in case of milk and milk products processing units (wherever applicable)
  • Source of raw material for meat and meat processing plants.(wherever applicable)
  • Pesticide residue report of water in case of units manufacturing packaged drinking water, packaged mineral water and / or carbonated water from a recognised / public health laboratory.
  • Recall plan wherever applicable , with the details on whom the product is distributed
  • NOCs from municipality or local body.
  • FORM IX: NOMINATION OF PERSONS BY A COMPANY ALONG WITH THE BOARD RESOLUTION.
  • Certificate provided by ministry of tourism (HRACC). (Mandatory for hotels only) 
  • For transporters – supporting documentary proof of turnover or self-declaration of numbers of vehicles. (mandatory for transporter only)
